SATURDAY 28th JULY
THE ST JAMES’S PLACE POLO DAY IN AID OF
THE ST JAMES PLACE FOUNDATION
Making
a welcome return in 2007 after a year break, this event saw over
500 guests attend in 2005 helping to raise £45,000 for the
Cotswold Care Hospice and Bristol Cancer Help Centre. Guests were
treated to a fantastic polo match which saw local team Laird defeat
a Highgrove team including HRH The Prince of Wales, Prince Harry
and Luke and Claire Tomlinson 4 goals to 3.
This year the proceeds will go towards the St
James Places’ own foundation who issue grants to any UK
charity with a turnover of less than £400,000 that has a
project that will provide directly for young people (under the
age of 25) within the UK who suffer from physical or mental health
difficulties or conditions, or a life threatening or degenerative
illness.

In 1999, the shareholders of St. James's Place Capital agreed
that, in future, the Company should match, pound for pound,
all monies raised by the Foundation, with an upper limit of
£500,000. In 2001, this resulted in funds raised exceeding
£1 million in a year for the first time, an accomplishment
that was repeated in 2002, 2003 and 2004. The matching upper
limit has been increased each year and in 2005 stands at £800,000.
In total more than £6.5 million has been raised.
At the present time, the St James Place Foundation
has two themes “Cherishing the Children” and “The
Hospice Movement”. Any UK charity with a turnover of less
than £400,000 that has a project that will provide directly
for young people (under the age of 25) within the UK who suffer
from physical or mental health difficulties or conditions, or
a life threatening or degenerative illness can apply for a grant
of up to £10,000 from the Foundation. Similarly, the Foundation
makes grants of up to £10,000 to hospices in the UK for
items such as equipment, the cost of therapy and other treatments.
In total, over £4,450,000 has been given
in grants to all causes since the Foundation was established
just over 13 years ago and the Foundation has approximately
£1.6 million available for future distribution. The Foundation
is proud of what has been achieved over the past 13 years and
we look forward to the challenge of sustaining and increasing
its growth so that even more people may benefit from its success.
